Best Practices
Pre-installation procedures for optimal performance and warranty coverage
Following these practices before installation ensures maximum performance, longevity, and maintains warranty coverage. Skipping these steps can lead to reduced product life or warranty void.
Inspect the Upper Hood Supports
RecommendedInspect the rubber on your upper hood supports for signs of wear: stress cracks, gouges, chips, hardening, or brittleness. Worn rubber won't provide uniform surface tension for optimal Hood Skinz performance.
Pro Tip: If significant wear is found, replace with new OEM or equivalent upper hood supports before installing Hood Skinz. This ensures proper pressure distribution and extends product life.
Warning: Installation on severely worn components may lead to premature failure and is not covered under warranty.
Evaluate the Hood Receptacles (Strike Points)
RecommendedCheck the hood receptacles — the strike points on the underside of the hood where the upper hood supports make contact. Look for metal burrs, sharp edges, or rough casting imperfections that can develop over time and snag the Hood Skinz material.
Pro Tip: Smooth any sharp imperfections with fine-grit sandpaper (220-grit or higher) to prevent premature wear on the Hood Skinz.
Clean All Surfaces Thoroughly
Strongly RecommendedClean both the upper hood supports and hood receptacles (strike points) before installation. Remove all road grime, dirt, residual oils, waxes, and especially old grease or silicone-based residues. All surfaces must be completely dry before installing Hood Skinz.
Pro Tip: High-pressure cleaning (steam or focused pressure washer) is the preferred method. Ensure surfaces are dry before proceeding.
DO NOT Use Lubricants
CriticalDo not apply petroleum-based grease, silicone sprays, oil, or any lubricant during or after installation. These chemicals degrade the Hood Skinz material, compromise elasticity, and cause premature failure.
For maximum product life: clean, dry surfaces only.
Warning: Failure due to chemical exposure from lubricants voids the warranty.
