Mack builds tough trucks. But even the Anthem and Granite aren't immune to hood squeak. If you're hearing that chirp every time you hit a rough patch or close the hood, you're experiencing the same rubber-to-metal friction issue that affects every Class 8 truck on the road.

Here's what's going on and what your options are.

Why Mack Hoods Squeak

The Anthem, Granite, and Pinnacle all use rubber upper hood supports. The squeak originates at the contact point between that rubber bumper and the metal hood receptacle. When the rubber vibrates against metal, you hear squeak.

Mack-specific factors:

Heavy-duty use patterns — Mack trucks often work in construction, dump, and vocational applications with more vibration and rougher roads than typical OTR duty

High hood cycle frequency — vocational work means frequent inspections and access

Heat exposure — vocational trucks often idle longer, increasing engine bay temperatures and accelerating rubber hardening

Age — Mack trucks tend to stay in service longer, meaning more heat cycles and more rubber degradation

The root cause is the same as every other truck: friction and vibration at the rubber-to-metal contact point.

What Doesn't Fix It

Every driver has tried these. None of them last:

Silicone spray — a few hundred miles of relief, then reapply. Also makes future sleeve solutions incompatible.
